Yet, many never move past using the browser installed by the Operating System by default. Should you look for another browser? There are several to choose from, which one is the best? Even more important, [Read more...]
First, you are using a browser to view this page. A browser is a program that runs on your computer. Windows is not a browser, it is a computer operating system and your browser is a program that runs on that operating system. Internet Explorer would be the browser that is included on all Windows computers (in the US at least).
Actually, Adobe released it a couple weeks ago at the time of this post, but I had a few problems with it and waited to make sure it was going to work before I was going to recommend everyone switch to it.
This new version of Adobe Reader is more than just a small fix or upgrade. It introduces a new security feature that should help keep malware off your computers.
What this means is that [Read more...]
Wow! Another month went by so fast. This time news from Microsoft and Adobe.
Yes, it’s already time for Microsoft’s monthly release of patches.
This month Microsoft has a record setting 16 bulletins. These fix a total of about 49 vulnerabilities. [Read more...]
Microsoft is issuing an out of band security update tomorrow September 28,2010.
The exploit affects the Microsoft .net service that is used for keeping information on a Web server secure.
The SAN’s internet storm center sums up Microsoft’s advisory this way:
Translated, this means that the vulnerability undermines basic web application security.
This update covers just about all Operating Systems. Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Unix, and even Android. Basically, every system except the iPhone and iPad (no flash fun for them).
The vulnerability that this update fixes has been being exploited for several weeks already in Windows. However, there is the possibility for any operating system to eventually see malware or attacks using this weakness.
You can follow the instructions on the Adobe website – just click the “Get Flash” button there.
Click here for direction and a how-to video for updating Flash in Windows 7
For Windows XP, you can follow the directions to update Flash here, but use only Internet Explorer and not Google Chrome.
I expect there will also be an update for Adobe Reader and Acrobat within a couple weeks but this Flash update should help with that vulnerability as it is Flash that also is the problem there.
If you do not update Flash, it is only a matter of time before malware will be installed on your computer. That is, if it is not too late already. This is that serious.
Some recent changes in Google Chrome have made the old tutorial I made about updating Adobe Flash a bit obsolete, so I now introduce a new, better one here.
This will also work for Adobe Shockwave as well. I have a new video tutorial for installing Adobe Flash with this post also.
Unfortunately, the risky way and the wrong way are the same. The only difference is that the risky way you upgrade or install Adobe Flash. The wrong way installs malware on your computer and you don’t know you used the wrong way.
First, an example of the wrong way so you know why you need to upgrade or install Adobe Flash the right way.
Sometimes, when you are trying to update Adobe Flash (or any another program) an old version of the program will cause some type of problem with the update. Specifically, Adobe mentions this possibility with Flash. I have seen this myself when doing tutorials for updating Adobe Flash. In my case, the error was because Flash was already updated. However, you may not know for sure that is the case and all you will have to do is uninstall the previous version (or versions) and then install the updated version.
Here’s a video for Uninstalling Adobe Flash. [Read more...]
